From page 133 of The Best Wedding Reception…Ever!:
Mitch Taylor, a Wedding Entertainment Director® in Gladstone, Michigan, says, “Have your guests write their own answers to the question ‘What Does Love Mean To You?’ on 3×5 cards and then deposit them in a special box so the two of you can read them later.”
What is a Wedding Entertainment Director® you ask? Let me explain…
I was initially exposed to the term “Wedding Entertainment Director®” when I first attended the Mobile Beat Conference in Las Vegas 3 years ago. Peter Merry of Merry Weddings founded the concept after a collective of disc jockey’s came to realize that their services had expanded well beyond just playing music and/or making announcements as the Master of Ceremonies. They desired another term that would best represent the personalization, creative involvement, event direction, public speaking, music programming, and overall presentation they brought to their client’s events. The result of the discussions that followed was a formation of the Wedding Entertainment Director’s Guild®.
The moment I first looked at the rigorous application process they use to verify that each and every member is a proven professional changed the service I was providing instantly. Many of you have been first hand beneficiaries of the changes I’ve brought to my service as a result.
The process of submitting an application to the WED Guild® has been in the back of my mind for the last year or so. It is with great pride today, that I announce the process of personally applying is now officially underway! I look forward to your support in this greatest of challenges. A really exciting part of this process involves past clients of mine and fellow wedding vendors.
The majority of the process involves being judged by a 4 person panel of current Wedding Entertainment Directors®. The talent those panels represent is both intimidating and exciting. It’s the uniqueness of applying for this membership that makes it so attractive to me. It’s not as easy as just purchasing a membership as many associations do. The individuals applying here are scrutinized to an incredibly high standard. This makes me excited not only for myself, but for the entire disc jockey industry. Higher standards are desperately needed.
If you believe that higher standards (such as the WED Guild®) for the disc jockey industry should be encouraged, please “like” this post. You “liking” this idea spreads the word to others within your circle of friends.
Wish me luck!
